16ª Mostra Internazionale di Architettura di Venezia.
Una riflessione per un utilizzo dello spazio che doni agli abitanti un'occasione di sviluppo e di migliore coesione con il proprio ambiente quotidiano.
"Siamo architetti, non curatrici" spiegano Yvonne Farrell e Shelley McNamara, fondatrici dello studio Grafton Architects. L'Architettura deve essere concreta per non essere spettacolare, afferma, inoltre, il direttore della Biennale Paolo Baratta: "ha fatto troppi danni per troppi anni". Sono queste due asserzioni che permettono di entrare nel vivo del tema di questa sedicesima edizione della Biennale di Architettura. Da una parte il punto di partenza dello spirito di questa manifestazione, un orientamento rivolto pienamente al significato reale dell'Architettura stessa, e dall'altra l'opportunità di ricordare consapevolmente che questa disciplina ha seminato anche molti errori negli anni recenti, ricaduti su intere comunità. In questa edizione sono presenti 71 progettisti invitati, affiancati da quelli raccolti in due sezioni speciali: la prima, nel numero di 16 partecipanti, si intitola Close Encounter, meetings with remarkable projects e presenta lavori che nascono da una riflessione su progetti noti del passato; la seconda, nel numero di 13 partecipanti, dal titolo The Practice of Teaching, raccoglie lavori sviluppati nell'ambito dell'insegnamento.

A reflection on a new use of space that gives the inhabitants an opportunity for development and better cohesion with their daily environment
"We are architects, not curators", Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara – founders of the Grafton Architects studio – explained to us. Architecture must be pragmatic in order not to be spectacular, said the director of the Venice Biennial Paolo Baratta: "It has done too much damage for too many years." These two statements allow us to really get to the heart of the theme of this sixteenth edition of the Architecture Biennale. On the one hand we have the starting point of the spirit of this event, which is an orientation fully addressed to the real meaning of Architecture itself, and on the other we have the opportunity to consciously remember that this discipline has made many mistakes in recent years, with repercussions on entire communities. In this edition there were 71 invited designers, in addition to those gathered in two special sections: the first one, with a total of 16 participants, called Close Encounter, meetings with remarkable projects, presenting works born from a reflection on well-known buildings of the past; the second section, counting 13 participants, called The Practice of Teaching, collecting works developed in teaching experiences.
