“The Laboratory of the future” è il titolo pensato dalla curatrice, Lesley Lokko, per la macchina espositiva della Biennale, durante il periodo visitabile dal 20 Maggio al 26 Novembre nei padiglioni dei Giardini, dell’Arsenale e nelle aree della città dedicate agli eventi collaterali. L’evento include la partecipazione 89 partecipanti di cui più della metà sono provenienti dall’Africa o dalla diaspora africana. Le partecipazioni nazionali rientrano in un numero pari a 68 con un’età media equivalente poco sopra la quarantina e prossima alla trentina per i progetti speciali. Di questi ultimi la curatrice spiega le ragioni di una definizione nuova del ruolo dell’architetto, utilizzando il termine anglosassone “pratictioner”, comprendendo una visione più ampia delle competenze operative nel territorio, nell’ambiente e nella città. Il Niger partecipa per la prima volta e riceve il premio del Leone d’Oro alla carriera conferito a Demas Nwoko, artista designer e architetto nigeriano. Il senso generale di questa Biennale si articola sul ruolo, la presenza e il significato che un certo approccio costruttivo contraddistingue il continente africano nei confronti delle grandi sfide del presente: il tema della decarbonizzazione e della decolonizzazione. Tuttavia, le problematiche relative alle conseguenze del cambiamento climatico, del reperimento delle fonti energetiche ed alimentari costituiscono il fulcro dei pensieri per un nuovo futuro modo di concepire le forme sostenibili dell’abitare e convivere sia con la città che con la natura. Lo stesso presidente della Biennale, Cicutto, ribadisce l’importanza di “ascoltare dall’interno le diverse voci che vengono dall’Africa e dialogano con il resto del mondo” ricordando che si tratta del continente più giovane del pianeta. In maniera coerente e sinergica l’organizzazione strutturale ed operativa della Biennale ha ottenuto il certificato di neutralità carbonica per tutte le sue manifestazioni (standard internazionale PAS2060 certificato dal RINA) nel 2022, delineando un esempio virtuoso nell’impiego delle risorse, non solo nelle dinamiche dell’Architettura permanente, ma anche nei confronti delle manifestazione temporanee.

"The Laboratory of the future" is the title conceived by the curator, Lesley Lokko, for the Biennale's exhibition machine, during the period that can be visited from May 20 to Nov. 26 in the pavilions of the Giardini, the Arsenale and in the city's areas dedicated to side events. The event includes participation 89 participants of whom more than half are from Africa or the African diaspora. The national participations fall within a number of 68 with an equivalent average age just above forty and close to thirty for special projects. Of the latter, the curator explains the reasons for a new definition of the architect's role, using the Anglo-Saxon term "practictioner," encompassing a broader view of operational skills in the land, environment and city. Niger is participating for the first time and receiving the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award given to Demas Nwoko, Nigerian artist designer and architect. However, issues related to the consequences of climate change, finding energy and food sources form the focus of thoughts for a new future way of conceiving sustainable forms of living and coexisting with both the city and nature. The president of the Biennale himself, Cicutto, reiterates the importance of "listening from within to the different voices that come from Africa and dialogue with the rest of the world," recalling that it is the youngest continent on the planet. In a coherent and synergistic way, the structural and operational organization of the Biennale has obtained the carbon neutrality certificate for all its events (international standard PAS2060 certified by RINA) in 2022, outlining a virtuous example in the use of resources, not only in the dynamics of permanent Architecture, but also with respect to temporary events.
